Faculty Compensation

OVERLOAD TEACHING

Compensation for courses taught on the Ohio University Learning Network (OULN) will be at the normal overload rate as long as income generated by student credit hours equals (breaks even with) faculty base salary for the course.

Compensation for any OULN course that is less than break-even will be pro-rated up to normal overload rates based on average fee income per student credit generated in the course.

ON-LOAD TEACHING

The instructor will be compensated only for travel, course development, and multi-site delivery (if appropriate).

An amount equal to the faculty overload salary (or the pro-rated amount) less the course development fee will be transferred to the instructor's department.

Course Preparation

All faculty scheduled to teach an OULN course shall participate in a course preparation program during the quarter prior to when they are scheduled to teach. If an instructor is not available (on sabbatical, etc.) during the quarter prior to when they are scheduled to teach an OULN course, then the preparation quarter shall be the closest preceding quarter in which the instructor is available.

The Basic Preparation Program for each instructor shall include:

Upon successful completion of the basic preparation program, the instructor shall be compensated at the rate of $100 per credit hour for the first time the OULN course is taught; and $75 per credit hour for each subsequent time the same course is taught by the same instructor on OULN.

COURSE DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

Additional compensation is available to faculty scheduled to teach OULN courses through OULN Course Development Grants. The grants are intended to encourage faculty to be innovative and fully utilize the distance learning tools within the OULN classroom (Blackboard, television monitors; instructional computer with Internet connections and the Microsoft Office package; an overhead camera and instructional cameras) to instructionally enhance their distance learning course.  Amount of the grants will be $100 per credit hour for the first time the OULN course is taught; and $75 per credit hour for each subsequent time the same course is taught by the same instructor on OULN.

Compensation shall be awarded upon successful completion of the project(s) stated in the OULN Course Development application.

Grant applications must be received no later than the fifth week of the preparation quarter to receive consideration.

MULTI-CAMPUS COMPENSATION

Faculty teaching to more than two regional campuses, and whose enrollment totals sixteen students on those campuses, will be compensated up to $500 for each additional regional campus (3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th regional campus) that has at least five students.

Faculty will be compensated $100 per student, up to a maximum of $500 (five students) for each regional campus. For example, if the third regional campus has three students the additional compensation will be $300. If the fourth campus has five students, the added compensation will be $500. And if the fifth campus has seven students, the compensation is $500. On the other hand, if the third, fourth, and fifth regional campus each had five or more students, the multi-campus compensation would be the maximum of $1500.

CAMPUS ORIGINATION

Contingent upon being possible to schedule, the instructor should administer at least one class session at each regional campus involved in the OULN course. Faculty will be compensated for travel to each regional campus based on University rates and campus policy/procedure.
